Traveling alone may seem like something you and I wish to experience for so long. As I reckon travelling alone is very also very fun and will come with lots of extra excitement. After traveling I concluded that although travelling with companions can be great, the benefits of travelling alone are far different from that of social travel with companions. With a good mindset and willingness to travel alone is not only considered as incredible life experience and even you can call it a valuable life experience.

In taking my solo trip I have planned to take my travel and vacation exploring and I could indulge in some much needed reflection and relaxation time. Los Angeles – Star-Studded Nights and Days

Welcome to the bright lights and the big city allure of Los Angeles, the 2nd largest city in the US and California’s largest metropolis. This is where you really see celebrities navigating the sidewalks with macchiato and cell phones in hand, sometimes with a burly man or two one step behind.

At any time in history, this is the city where there are more artists and writers, filmmakers, actors, dancers, musicians, and other artistic denizens, currently working or not, in the big entertainment factory than in any other place in the world.

As it is, the visitor is lured first into tinsel town glamor – movie studio tours, or putting your hands into some dead legend’s handprints at the Chinese Theater. Sometimes, you are told to lurk near the city hot spots to get a glimpse of your favorite stars.

Los Angeles is not all about Hollywood and the movie stars, of course. They’re just gravy to the real spirit of the town that’s a perennial rival to good old New York. Sometimes, what it has are better than that of the Big Apple.

Museums

The city has, as of last count, at least 841 museums and art galleries spread out in Los Angeles County. In fact, it has more museums per capita than any other city in the planet. Some of the most famous (and the largest) are the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Getty Center, a part of the J. Paul Getty Trust, the world’s wealthiest art institutions.

There is also the Battleship Iowa and the Museum of Contemporary Art. Gallery Row hosts more of the significant art galleries in the city. This is where tens of thousands of patrons and admirers attend the monthly Downtown Art Walk.

The entertainment museums include the Staples Center and the LA Live where music artifacts (Elvis’s music sheets, Michael Jackson’s gloves, among others) are on display at the Grammy Museum.

For other tourists, it shall be a sacrilege missing out visits to Universal Studios, Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Griffin Park and Laboratory.

Dining
Like any other tourist, dining places ranks high in rating cities, and Los Angeles is up there with the best of them. As a matter of fact, world-famous celebrity chefs make the other attractions to the city, led by Wolfgang Puck and his legendary Spago in Beverly Hills.

Other hip places include Ford’s Filling Station of Ben Ford, the ultra fancy Patina, the star restaurant at Walt Disney Concert Hall where Chef Joachim Splichal always surprises with his gastronomic showstoppers, and the chic Herringbone of chef Ben Malarkey among the special ones.

Of course, you should never leave out Kang Hodong Baekjong in Koreatown, or the perfect ramen at Tsujita in Little Tokyo and the corn tamales at El Cholo, a perennial LA favorite since 1923.

Glitz and glamor

Los Angeles had always been synonymous with trendy places, celebrities, and adventure. Celebrity spotting goes with shopping at Beverly and Canon Drives. Or, it could be riding elevators at Mondrian Hotel, relaxing with a drink at The Roof at Hotel Wilshire while watching the skyline lights up and the stars to come out.

At LA, it’s “choose your wild and enjoy the ride”.

Berlin – Art, History and Non-Stop Parties

Forget New York.

For the party animal, Berlin (among the cities in the world) is the party paradise, the first and original city that never sleeps. From tiny basement clubs to industrial techno palaces, beer gardens and cocktail taverns, sizzling cabarets of all persuasions, the city brings in all the hot live action not just after dark but pretty much into 24/7.

The biggest wonder of it all is that Berlin is also one distinct place, an important junction in recent world history encompassing culture, the arts, and movements in philosophy, religion and science. This kaleidoscope of achievements makes Berlin a world city of distinction with a kind of swagger all its own, but still always keeping in step with today’s beat.

Landmarks and top spots

The first thing that comes to mind visiting Berlin is its famous Brandenburg Gate. Standing as a symbol of division, Brandenburg has always been associated as the beating heart of the city that explodes with ideas, inspiration, art, culture and creativity.

The city’s Unter der Linden Boulevard extends towards Alexanderplatz Square, passing the Museum Island World Heritage site, including the Berlin Cathedral, the Neue Wache, and the baroque Zeughauz which houses today’s German National Museum.

Behind the Brandenberg is the Reichstag, home of the German Parliament with the famous glass dome over the session area remodeled by British Norman Foster. The glass roof allows a panoramic view of the city right from the center of government.

The Holocaust Museum/Memorial is near the Brandenberg Gates and the Reichstag. It has 2,700 stone slabs with some memento or letter from families who were separated in the war. Underneath the memorial is a museum. It is free and consists of only four rooms, one of which is darkened with a projector with the names of the people who died in the Holocaust.

At the eastern end of the boulevard is Museum Island (UNESCO-listed World Heritage Site). It houses five of Berlin’s most important museums. The two most famous ones are the Neues Museum, home to the Egyptian bust of Nefertiti.

The other is the Pergamon Museum, a recreated ancient Greek city. It houses original-sized monumental structures (the Pergamon altar, the market gate of Miletus, and the Ishtar Gate of Babylon which houses the transported parts taken from the original sites).

It also has a large Islamic collection and takes about two hours to go through the entire museum.

Another must-see is the Bauhaus Archiv where the utilitarian art school was founded. Today, the museum displays furniture, ceramics, prints, sculptures, photos and sketches created in its workshop.

Nights and beyond

People flock to Berlin for its spectacular night life, still with shades of Christopher Isherwood and immortalized by Liza Minnelli. The famous clubs is led by Berghain, called “the church” by the regulars, opens Saturday nights till Monday mornings. There’s also the Golden Gate (techno parties) that start Thursdays till Monday afternoons. Ditto with Goldengate and Watergate.

Even ‘non-club’ people are intoxicated by the open atmosphere, liberal attitudes, and eccentric spirit because these places cater to every taste.

As the visitor, you can discover for yourself why Berlin is the creative workshop of Germany, a trendsetter while being a capital of fashion, design, art and music.

Bangkok – Ancient, Exotic, Hip

Bangkok is a paradox to most people. However, for frequent visitors who had learned to love the city since the day they were here declare that the city is everything what people say it is, plus some. This hybrid city had woven a strange tapestry of age-old temples sitting side by side with modern boutique hotels and cool galleries.

With such attractions as varied as the world-famous Thai cuisine, pristine vacation places and quaint temples and massive religious structures, Bangkok has no peer. The people are warm and beautiful, if a tad shy and modest to a fault. This is one place where a whole week is not enough to fill your eyes with incredible sites and sample incredible food.

The Grand Palace

All visitors don’t want their visit to be incomplete without seeing the Grand Palace, the city’s most famous landmark with its spectacular architecture. The palace is one showcase that displays the ingenuity, craftsmanship and the creative energy of the Thai people, a good source of their pride.

It used to be the official residence of the revered King of Thailand and his family for over 150 years. The monarch had moved to his new residence and left the palace with the Thai War Ministry and the government’s state departments. But it still is the spiritual heart of the Thai kingdom.

Old & New Cultures

Thailand’s disappearing water culture, the Ban Nam Peung Floating Market is one that you must not miss out. You can take a glimpse of it by way of the plantation cycle tours in Bang Kra Jao, a vast green area opposite Bangkok’s working port.

There are, of course, other attractions that are as varied as they come and can only happen in Bangkok. There are the Asiatique that features restaurants, a Ferris Wheel, a lively night market in historic warehouses, the Calypso Cabaret (a lady boy show), and the Joe Louis Thai Puppet Theater.

Food

If there’s another attraction that lures visitors to Bangkok, it’s the attraction to the world-famous Thai gastronomic adventures. Whereas in other countries, the most craved-for food is only available at some of the most exclusive (and expensive!) hotels and restaurants, Bangkok is right there in front of you: on the street you’re walking on.

In Thailand, the locals value the taste of their food more than the place it’s been prepared in or the people who served them. Like its most basic quality, taste is the only measurement they respect. And it had been so for years and years in the city.

Food places in the city include the popular Yaowarat (Bangkok’s Chinatown), one great place to start sampling some seriously tasty treats from street stalls to small hole-in-the-wall restaurants. The mix of Thai and Chinese dishes is your never-miss guide to a heavenly place for food.

Another place comparable is the street from Saphan Taskin and Bang Rak area where the old cooks can put some world-renowned chefs to shame.

In any event, your visit in Bangkok will always be memorable while chewing something you know little of but tastes like heaven, marveling at the temples and palaces around, and trying to decipher the Thai street names.

Rio de Janeiro – Hot & Sexy, Gorgeous & Musical

You can feel it yourself. The people, the beaches, the languorous music, the abandon, the sea, the sand, the wind – everything talks to you in that inimitable Brazilian rhythm Rio de Janeiro is famous for. Of course, you listen and you can’t help it but give in.

The beaches and the mountains with the backdrop of samba and bossa nova rhythms, the world-famous Ipanema, the world’s largest Art Deco statue and Rio’s annual Carnaval celebration of music and dance and street revelry – these are the elements made famous by this extraordinary city. Or, these extraordinary elements made Rio de Janeiro one of a kind in the world.

Let’s take them one by one.

Copacabana Beach

The long and scalloped Copacabana beach (made famous, again, by a song) is some 4 kilometers long. Zooming in, one sees the overflow of activities along its length: soccer players singing their anthem, cariocas (Rio residents) and tourists queuing at kiosks for their caipirinhas, kids from the favelas showing their soccer skills and loud vendors.

At once, you can see each group staking their small real estates around. From the Copacabana Palace Hotel and Rua Fernando Mendes is the gay and transvestite crowd with their rainbow flag. Then there’s the young football players, favela kids and carioca retirees, fisherman’s colony. Up north, there’s a mix of older Leme residents.

Ipanema Beach

This is one long beach divided by postos (posts) which marks the different cultures around. Posto 9 has Rio’s most lithe and tanned bodies. At Praia Farme, the gay society converges. Posto 8 is the domain of favela kids. Arpoador (between Ipanema and Copacabana) is the most popular surf spot in Rio de Janeiro.

Posto 10 is for sports enthusiasts where there are always ongoing games of volleyball, soccer and frescobol (beach tennis with wooden rackets and rubber ball.) Leblon attracts the single cariocas and some families from the surrounding neighborhood.

Parque Nacional da Tijuca

This magnificent 120-square kilometer tropical jungle teems with trees, creeks and waterfalls, mountainous terrains and peaks. The whole place has an excellent well-marked train system doe families to have picnics and for some serious hikers who want to the summit, Pico da Tijuca.

Inside are lovely picnic spots, elegant restaurants, a chapel and several lovely waterfalls.

Cristo Redentor

All by his lonesome, Cristo Redentor gazes over Rio, all 1145 tons of concrete, looking calm and composed. He is visible at nearly every part of the city, especially when the statue is lighted at night. Corcovado where the statue lies is part of Tijuca National Park.

Tourists take the narrow-gauge train that leaves every 30 minutes, and takes around 20 minutes to reach the statue at the top.

Other sites

Rio is not just these sites. There is the renovated Theatro Municipal stands side by side next to Odeon cinema, the last sign of a once-thriving cinema industry. It is the site of the city’s many film festivals.

Lapa by night (on Fridays), is the center of all things samba and the street party. There’s non-stop music and there’s dancing, and people float around like they’re flying. The Samba sound rules this part of Rio de Janeiro.
